Alejandro Carrillo is a fourth-generation rancher in the Chihuahuan desert. Rarely his precipitation goes beyond 9" per year (< 230mm). Every drop counts to grow more grasses and forbs. He is not willing to waste any water in such a brittle environment if he wants to graze year-round without inputs. The ongoing drought that ranchers faced on these arid landscapes encouraged Alejandro to look for better ways of doing things. He took his first Holistic grazing management class back in 2006.

From then on, he has traveled and learned from the best regenerative ranchers around the world. Thru trial and error, he adapted these learning experiences to his brittle environment. Nowadays Alejandro can carry 8+ times more cattle than neighboring ranches on a per-acre basis, while lowering his inputs substantially.

Alejandro’s ranch, Las Damas, has been part of multiple documentaries and studies focused on regenerative ranching such as Sacred Cow, To Which We Belong, Water in Plain Sight, and Common Ground.

Alejandro established a solid relationship with bird conservation organizations 10+ years ago, working closely with both Mexican and US organizations to protect migratory birds successfully. Alejandro’s Grasslands Regeneration Project organization assists ranchers and institutions on regenerative practices mainly across the Western USA, but also in South America, Australia, Africa, and Arabia, dealing with bison, livestock, and wildlife. He also participates as a delegate to the United Nations to Combat Desertification and Land Degradation in multiple countries. Before getting his boots on the ground full-time, Alejandro worked as a software engineer and IT consultant in various countries in the Americas and Europe. He has a BS in Computer Science from Monterrey Tech, and an MS in Technical Management from the Johns Hopkins University.

Fred Provenza grew up in Salida, Colorado, working on a ranch while attending school in Wildlife Biology at Colorado State University. He obtained graduate degrees and worked at Utah State University for 35 years. He is now professor emeritus of Behavioral Ecology in the Department of Wildland Resources at Utah State University where he directed an award-winning research group that pioneered understanding of how learning through metabolically mediated flavor-feedback relationships and experiences in utero and early in life influence foraging behavior and how behavior links the health of soil, plants, herbivores, and humans. That work culminated in a program called BEHAVE, which was active from 2000-2010. BEHAVE was an international network of scientists, ranchers, farmers, and land managers committed to integrating behavioral principles with local knowledge to enhance environmental, economic, and cultural values of rural and urban communities.

He is the author of three books, including Nourishment: What Animals Can Teach Us About Rediscovering Our Nutritional Wisdom; Foraging Behavior: Managing to Survive in a World of Change; and The Art & Science of Shepherding: Tapping the Wisdom of French Herders (co-author with Michel Meuret). His audiobook adaptation of Nourishment, which was released in November of 2022, reflects much of the content of the print book, but includes less-technical descriptions of scientific research and provides updates as he continues to explore and ponder the endless cycles of birth and death on planet Earth. He has published over 300 research papers in a wide variety of scientific journals, and he has been an invited speaker at over 600 conferences. The many awards he received for research, teaching, and mentoring reflect the creativity that flowed from warm professional and personal relationships with over 75 graduate students, post-doctoral students, visiting scientists, and colleagues during the past 45 years.

Tre’ Cates, Founding Partner of nRhythm, has over 25 years of senior-level experience as an executive and consultant in a variety of industries on six continents and 35+ countries. He has worked directly with senior executives at many Fortune 1000 organizations in addition to multi- stakeholder cross-sector projects that involve government, communities, industry and NGOs.

Reginaldo Haslett-Marroquin began working on economic development projects with indigenous Guatemalan communities in 1988. He served as a consultant for the United Nations Development Program’s Bureau for Latin America and as an advisor to the World Council of Indigenous Peoples and was a founding member of the Fair Trade Federation in 1994. Since migrating to the US in 1992, Regi has led the creation and launch of multiple enterprises. His first significant contribution to the US social enterprise sector was in 1995 when he founded Peace Coffee, a Minnesota-based fair-trade coffee company. Regi’s social enterprise development work includes woodland owner cooperatives and a multitude of inner-city new immigrant enterprise efforts in Minnesota.

Haslett-Marroquin was named one of MN’s Twin Cities International Citizens of the Year in 1996. In 2008 he received two regional Service to Mankind Awards (SERTOMA). He has served on numerous non-profit boards. Regi serves on multiple advisory boards to organizations working on regenerative agriculture with a focus on agroforestry as a global solution to climate, hunger, malnutrition, and poverty. Regi is Co-Founder and CEO of Tree-Range® Farms, a MN- based company, and leads multiple teams in Minnesota, South Dakota, Mexico, and Guatemala that have broken new ground in the regenerative food and agriculture field through an innovative Poultry Centered Regenerative Agriculture System he has pioneered.

A native Guatemalan, Regi received his agronomy degree from the Escuela Nacional Central de Agricultura (ENCA), studied at the Universidad de San Carlos in Guatemala, and graduated from Augsburg University in Minnesota. Regi lives in Northfield Minnesota with his wife Amy, they own and operate a 64-acre farm where he continues to do to R&D on regenerative poultry production systems.

Ben Eldredge is the Executive Director of the Cibolo Conservancy, a land trust and environmental policy organization. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Cow Creek Groundwater Conservation District.

Ben has over 20 years of experience working as a land steward and advocate for the conservation of natural resources. He currently participates on numerous planning and policy focus groups in the Texas Hill Country, including the Hill Country Conservation Network and Camp Bullis Sentinel Landscape. He has previously served on the City of Boerne’s Unified Development Code Committee, the Kendall County Transportation Planning Committee and as the manager of a 5000 acre working ranch.

Allen Williams is a 6th generation family farmer and founding partner of Grass Fed Insights, LLC, Understanding Ag, LLC and the Soil Health Academy. He has consulted with more than 4000 farmers and ranchers in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, South America, and other countries, on operations ranging from a few acres to over 1 million acres.

Allen pioneered many of the early regenerative grazing protocols and forage finishing techniques and now teaches those practices and principles to farmers globally. He is a “recovering academic”, having served 15 years on the faculty at Louisiana Tech University and Mississippi State University. He holds a B.S. and M.S. in Animal Science from Clemson University and a Ph.D. in Livestock Genetics from LSU. He has authored more than 400 scientific and popular press articles, and is an invited speaker at regional, national, and international conferences and symposia.

Allen and his colleagues specialize in whole farm & ranch planning based on the concept of regenerative agriculture. Their approach creates significant “value add” and prepares the landowner for multiple enterprise/revenue stream opportunities that stack enterprises and acres. Jared is an American Ecologist and Zoologist. He has authored scientific papers, pamphlets, manuals and technical documents on a variety of subjects dealing with the natural world and in the field of science education. He has been a contributing scientist on the PBS Show NOVA, featured in TV episodes on the Outdoor Channel, and on various podcasts. More importantly he has been educating landowners and underserved children for over 15 years on the importance of nature and ethical land stewardship.

Jared has a passion for connectivity. Getting landowners/stewards (and anyone who wants to listen) to feel and understand their landscape, how to work with it, not against it the way nature intends. He is also the lead biologist for Origin Ranch, a 350 acre regenerative ranch and rangeland restoration project where they have been raising and grazing in Mother Nature's image since 2020.

Brent Pella is a stand-up comedian and digital content creator best known for his viral comedy videos online and as a cast member on MTV's Wild 'N Out.
